About
The international SOLAIR Conference (Society, Law, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics) organized primarily by the Institute of State and Law of the Czech Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic was established in 2018. Since the first year the conference gained very positive publicity and hosted a number of leading experts on law and artificial intelligence from the public sphere, academia and business.
The main purpose of the conference is to create an open space and platform for discussion of inspiring and innovative ideas related to law and artificial intelligence and to support discussions as well as partnership between the public and private spheres.
Each year of the SOLAIR Conference is focused on a specific topic:
- SOLAIR 2018: International Harmonization of Private Law with Regard to Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Autonomous Robotics
- SOLAIR 2019: Human Centric Artificial Intelligence
- SOLAIR 2020: Fundamental Rights and Values in the Digital Age
- SOLAIR 2021: Artificial Intelligence from the Perspective of Horizontal and Sectoral Legislation
The SOLAIR Conference has been supported by multiple partners and the number of partners is growing every year.
In 2019, the SOLAIR Conference was organized jointly by the Institute of State and Law of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the Government Office of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, and Microsoft. The conference was also supported by Strategy AV21.
In 2020, the SOLAIR Conference was organized jointly by the Institute of State and Law of the CAS, the Czech Academy of Sciences, the Government Office of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, Microsoft, UNCITRAL, Ministry of Justice of Japan and Japan International Dispute Resolution Center (JIDRC). The conference was also supported by Strategy AV21.
In 2021, the SOLAIR Conference was organized jointly by the United Nation’s UNCITRAL, the Institute of State and Law of the CAS, the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic, UNIDROIT, the Czech Academy of Sciences, Microsoft, Happenee, and the initiative Czech Women in Artificial Intelligence. The conference was organized under the auspices of Věra Jourová – Vice-President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency, Alena Schillerová – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Czech Republic, and Eva Zažímalová – President of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
In 2022, the SOLAIR Conference will focus on “Artificial Intelligence for the Safer World“.The conference traditionally takes place on Thursday and Friday of the second week in September. The future conferences will take place as follows:
- SOLAIR 2022: 3 – 4 November 2022 (conference postponed from 8 – 9 September)
- SOLAIR 2023: 7 – 8 September 2023
- SOLAIR 2024: 12 – 13 September 2024
